Hi,
I have 6.0 installed on WindowsXP SP2. I create my job and click start. ScreenWatch minimizes, the click OK to begin recording appears. I record for a while and then stop. The recording complete message appears. But when I attempt to play the file back nothing happens. I click on Job Managment- Stop or Retrieve job and I get an error message "There was an error detected when stopping your recording job" I have tried this on 3 machines same result. Any Ideas?

Hi Michael,

It sounds like things recorded ok, but that the playback isn't working.

Please check in the area of where you recorded your jobs and see if you have all of the files there. In the case of Realnetworks, you should see an rm, sc, and smi file. In the case of Windows Media, you should see an asf, and an htm file. (There are actually more files, but these are the main one's).

During the recording process, we store the intermediate files in the windows temp folder. If there is an error detected either with realnetworks, or the windows media, you should get a message saying that an error was detected and the recording job was stopped.

Please check those things. If necessary, we can contact you directly and work through any issues you might have.

Other things that may cause issue with ScreenWatch: Mcafee and some firewall software.

Thanks,

Hi Michael,

There was one case of a customer having a similar problem. It had to do with the TMPDIR TMP, or TEMP environment variable being set to something other than the windows default /windows/temp folder.

I believe the results were as you described. You may want to check to see if any of these variables are set to something other than /windows/temp or /winnt/temp (in the case of a 2000 upgrade to xp).

If you have this case, there is a setting that we can set in ScreenWatch I believe, or you can reset them back to the windows default.

Let us know,
Thanks,

Yep, We set our temp dir to a different location. What file do I need to edit in screenwatch to repoint to our temp directory?

Hi Michael,

Ok, then here is what you should do:

The easiest way to change this is to add a registry Value under HKEY_LOCALMACHINE/Software/Optx/ScreenWatch

Make it a string value and name it SWTMPDIR.
For the value, put in where you have the temporary directory set.

Then reboot and you should be able to get all of the files after they are recorded.

BTW: your files are probably sitting in the /windows/temp folder in the case you had a presentation you wanted to keep.

Let us know that it worked ok after that change,

Thanks,

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the update. Just another note. If you are going to be using the remote recording feature, the swtmpdir setting must be the same for all machines talking with each other over the network. I.e. Your A/V recording, ScreenRecording and the machine you are running SW Producer to initiate a recording.

Thanks,
