Hi,
We are presently upgrading our Helix server to the newest version of Helix Universal Server version 11.1 on a box running Linux Suse. Our past versions were running on Solaris, and we were required to have a Screen Watch plug in installed to stream a fair amount of tutorial presentation for various computing tasks. I contacted Real Networks to try to get a new plug-in for this purpose, and I was told that they do not support Screen watch any more. Does OPTX have any solutions for me? I fear that if I cannot find some work around that we will be phasing out our screen watch content. Please advise.

Hi Dave,

Realnetworks never really did support ScreenWatch as we are a third party provider of solutions for recording classroom lectures using Real's technology.

We do have a linux plugin, but I am unsure if Suse is supported. I am thinking it is. If it is compatable with RedHat, then we sell a plugin that will work. I am just not sure if Suse uses Red Hat's or Fedora's binary format.

If you would like to "try" a plugin to see if it will load, then you can contact sales@optx.com and perhaps they can send you a plugin for evaluation.

Just a note also: ScreenWatch content plays just fine from a web server and without a media server. So if we don't support the linux flavor you have, you can just put the content on your webserver. You'll just need to point your smil files to the webserver instead.

Thanks,
OPTX Support
